Greenwoodman Posted 29 September , 2004 Share Posted 29 September , 2004 1st Garrison formed at Lichfield July 1915. Oct 15 to Malta then to Egypt where it remained. A garrison battalion in my understanding was a non-fighting unit, but whose job was to provide a military presence wherever one was needed, guarding military installations, lines of communication and in Egypt perhaps the Suez canal.
