tintin1689 Posted 30 September , 2004 Share Posted 30 September , 2004 A Heavy Battery in every Territorial Division A Mountain Brigade in the Scottish Highlands A substantial number of Defended Ports units comprising variable numbers of Heavy Batteries (which manned mobile heavy guns) and Companies (which manned the fixed defences). These were backed up by Territorial Fortress RE units comprising Works Companies and Electrical Companies which ensured the fixed defences were in working order. A very large percentage of the system of Coast defences was manned by RGA and RE Territorials

CSMMo Posted 30 September , 2004 Share Posted 30 September , 2004 The first guns on the beach at Helles Point were guns of the 4th Highland Mountain Brigade, RGA, TF as well as at Suvla Bay. While Indian Army Mountain Guns were employed at ANZAC Cove, it was the Scottish Territorials who manhandled their cannons up the cliffs at both the southern battle areas and, later at Suvla. They were then employed in Egypt briefly and Salonika for the rest of the war. Mike Morrison
