Broznitsky Posted 2 October , 2004 Share Posted 2 October , 2004 I was looking at the War Diary for the 75th, and they were chewed up pretty good, crossing the Canal du Nord. By October 1st, they had lost ALL their officers, except the CO. Even the HQ chappies had been pressed forward, to take over the companies without officers, and then been wounded or killed themselves. I haven't read enough to see when Werden was wounded, but Marika's link indicates he had time to write a letter home; so it must have been a little before his passing on October 1st. I wonder if he knew all his fellow officers were casualties?
