New book The Cambridge History of the First World War, a three-part collection of academic essays published this week, has an article by Antoine Prost, Professor Emeritus of History at the University of Paris say this. Two articles in the press: http://www.telegraph.co.uk/history/world-war-one/10577200/WW1-dead-and-shell-shock-figures-significantly-underestimated.html, http://www.thetimes.co.uk/tto/news/uk/defence/article3979977.ece

I know the calculation to get 60k for the first day of the Somme took several people several months and was never repeated.

Has anyone seen a copy?

I'm curious as to how understated he claims the British losses to be.

From a UK point of view I doubt the losses are to far out from official figures otherwise the IFCP would be finding a lot more men then they are - the losses being talked about could however be commonwealth
