chrisharley9 Posted 5 October , 2004 Share Posted 5 October , 2004 I have seen a service no for the RGA as low as 32. Would this be a typographical mistake or is this correct. Do service nos for the RGA have any sort of meaning All The Best Chris
SPotter Posted 5 October , 2004 Share Posted 5 October , 2004 Chris, This will almost certainly be a Territorial Artillery Brigade, as each individual Brigade numbered their men starting from 1, this being the senior WO or NCO. Normally the establishment wasn't huge, so there would be lots of men with very low numbers. I'm sure someone with a greater understanding can give more detail but hope this is a start for you. KONDOA Posted 5 October , 2004 Share Posted 5 October , 2004 My grandfather was 223 in 1st/11th (Hull) Heavy Battery (Dec 1914) this later became 290214 when numbering was standardised.
chrisharley9 Posted 5 October , 2004 Author Share Posted 5 October , 2004 Rupert Many thanks - when did the numbering change All The Best Chris
KONDOA Posted 6 October , 2004 Share Posted 6 October , 2004 I really do not know and it is very confusing. His medals have 223 on them but all other documentation have 290214. Perhaps another Chum may assist in this matter.
Charles Fair Posted 6 October , 2004 Share Posted 6 October , 2004 Territorial Force renumbering happened in March 1917. See Jock Bruce's article on it here TF renumbering. regards Charles
