Chris_Baker Posted 9 October , 2004 Share Posted 9 October , 2004 240197 Pte Samuel Hemming was discharged with a silver war badge, on 12 September 1918. His records have been lost, but his medal documents say he enlisted in 1912 and served with 1/6th Battalion. No mention is made of his number other than his 1917 new number as shown at the beginning on this post. Two questions for Warwicks experts... 1. Can anyone tell me his earlier number? 2. Can anyone tell me when he might have been wounded, leading to his discharge? Or, of course, anything else...
Terry Carter Posted 10 October , 2004 Share Posted 10 October , 2004 Hi Chris The Casualty Lists published in the Birmingham Daily Post had the following:- Pte S Hemming 240197 wounded 25 July 1917 (date of publication) Pte S Hemming 1814 wounded 19 August 1916 (date of publication) It is possible that they are the same soldier and the 1916 wound was with his original T.F. number. Apart from that no other info Regards Terry
