Was not able to upload a spread sheet so am sorry about how this is presented. Have been working on identifying Irish men in the 16th KRRC which has not been straightforward. Coleraine newspaper says thirteen men went from Portrush; report in local paper for around Denham for October 1914 says 31 Irishmen in D Company, 17 from Cork; add in the later enlistment of W Bacon C/739 from Portrush and this makes the 31. There were a few more after this - number unknown. I seem to have identified all 14 from Portrush but only 13 of the 17 from Cork.

Johnny - a possible addition for your database ...

WEST, Rfn ARTHUR, R/20313
16th Bn., King's Royal Rifle Corps
Date of Death: 25/08/1916
DERNANCOURT COMMUNAL CEMETERY EXTENSION I. A. 23.
24 yrs, SON OF WALTER AND FRANCES WEST, OF 15, PALMERSTON PLACE, BROADSTONE, DUBLIN. NATIVE OF CHESTER.

Some digging will be needed though to clarify if he was definitely born in Chester or Dublin.

Cheers,

Mark

Thanks Mark. I realise that there were other Irishmen who served with the 16th KRRC. It would be very unlikely that I would be able to identify them as having had a CLB background. The men listed at the start of the post almost certainly were CLB lads before the war as there is plenty of evidence for this. I always appreciate the fact that you like to try and add to my knowledge. Thank you again.

With an R prefix, he's more than likely not one of the original CLB recruits into 16/KRRC I'd say.

I searched my KRRC Fallen database for any 16/KRRC casualty with an Ireland connection - he was the only one not already in your list.
