Moonraker Posted 21 May , 2014 Share Posted 21 May , 2014 I came across this curiosity priced at £3 yesterday when browsing in the Old Spitalfields Market near Liverpool Street Station in London. It's written in the style of the original Pepys diaries, but allusions to 20th-century technology means it doesn't really work. Available on-line Moonraker
IanA Posted 21 May , 2014 Share Posted 21 May , 2014 I think you mean "Great Warr". If you are familiar with the style of Pepys, it is moderately amusing but it goes on far too long and becomes predictable and tedious. There is even a second volume. tootrock Posted 21 May , 2014 Share Posted 21 May , 2014 There are actually three volumes! "A Diary of the Great Warr", July 1914 to December 1916, published 1917 "A Second Diary of the Great Warr", from January 1916 to June 1917, also published in 1917 "A Last Diary of the Great Warr", from July 1917 to December 1918, published in 1919 They are allegedly the diaries of Samuel Pepys, jun'r, sometime of Magdalene College in Cambridge and of His Majesty's Navy Office, Esquire, M.A. The author was R.M.Freeman Martin
IanA Posted 21 May , 2014 Share Posted 21 May , 2014 Thanks Martin. There are very few books 'about' the Great War which I have let go but these went. They gave me the megrims.
