agooner Posted 4 June , 2014 Share Posted 4 June , 2014 I am sure I have seen an expert on the 8th East Surrey on here. Problem getting my head round some of them killed on 30th September 1916 being buried up in Connaught and others down in Tincourt. Maybe me being thick but it does not add up. Of course many ended up on Thiepval after that day. Hopefully some one can educate me Thanks Tony
Jim Hastings Posted 4 June , 2014 Share Posted 4 June , 2014 The 8th attacked the Schwaben Redoubt on the 30th, 43 men were killed, 234 wounded and 34 missing. One of my local Fallen died there, happy to email you my write up for the Parish project on it if you'd like? agooner Posted 4 June , 2014 Author Share Posted 4 June , 2014 Thanks Jim, yes I had them in the Schwaben area. 69 deaths according to CWGC. The couple at Bray and the 5 in Tincourt were maybe found by my grandfather's colleagues after the war and interred down there. Wouldn't have been his own squad as they operated in the Arras area and were "populating" Faubourg D'Amiens there. Yes I would like to see your write up as I am on my 15th local war memorial now and every bit helps. Tony
