Interesting review and seems like an interesting book. To my own mind the failure of the various British government to capitalise on the diplomatic capital built up by Stratford Canning plus the Crimean War this leading to Prussia becoming viewed as Turkey's potential saviour, was a serious error of policy, made inevitable by the generally pro-Hellenic feelings of the majority of 19th century British politicians.
