David Ridgus Posted 5 July , 2016 Share Posted 5 July , 2016 Her friendship with Ramsey MacDonald was a very unlikely pairing - the austere, long widowed, pacifist socialist and the high society socialite wife of a Tory Cabinet minister David
Knotty Posted 5 July , 2016 Share Posted 5 July , 2016 Your knowledge of this lady tells me that she has probably been featured before? Unfortunately unable to search the Forum at the moment. John
David Ridgus Posted 5 July , 2016 Share Posted 5 July , 2016 Yes, again from memory, she was posted by Caryl some time ago. The friendship stuck in my mind as I've always been interested in MacDonald and the visceral hatred he inspires in Labour folk still today David
Uncle George Posted 8 July , 2016 Share Posted 8 July , 2016 Following Lady Londonderry: who is this society hostess ? ? ?
Knotty Posted 8 July , 2016 Share Posted 8 July , 2016 Evening UG That is Elsie de Wolfe or Lady Mendl as she was known after her marriage. She won the Croix de Guerre as a nurse, but had a lively career as an actress and an interior designer. John
neverforget Posted 13 July , 2016 Share Posted 13 July , 2016 For some reason or other, it will not allow me to attach any pictures at the moment, telling me that I`m only allowed to upload up to 250kb (in round figures). Even pictures as small as 5kb are being rejected on the grounds of being too large. Is anyone else struggling? Meanwhile, until I can post pictures again, who said this; and to whom??? Pretty easy this one. "Throw overboard all ammunition and impedimenta not absolutely required, and load up your lame ducks on all transport, horse and mechanical, and hustle along." Knotty Posted 13 July , 2016 Share Posted 13 July , 2016 Hi nf From Henry to Snowball your quotation. On your problem I think that somebody else had a similar problem with picture upload but I can't remember how it was resolved. Time to revisit the web upgrade stuff.
