Knotty Posted 7 January , 2017 Share Posted 7 January , 2017 (edited) Hi Khaki Correct that's the fellow. Beaten only by Ritter in his balloon busting exploits, total of 39 confirmed combined kills in less than a year. Died in an accident at 21 years of age, who knows what the future would have held for him. https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Heinrich_Gontermann John Edited 7 January , 2017 by Knotty

Knotty Posted 7 January , 2017 Share Posted 7 January , 2017 Hi nf My first thoughts are a young Cpt. George McElroy, I thought he got the MC x 2, with the infantry, but I'm not sure it's him. John

Uncle George Posted 7 January , 2017 Share Posted 7 January , 2017 How about Harold Leslie Edwards? Only one MM, though.
neverforget Posted 7 January , 2017 Share Posted 7 January , 2017 Sorry chaps. Wrong on both counts. He won his first M.M repairing a communications line in some thirty places, whilst under a severe artillery bombardment. His bar was awarded for his setting about dousing a fire that was endangering a pile of shrapnel and high-explosive shells. He too was later killed in action in the air. In fact I was sure that he had featured before, but it would appear not, unless it was in the original thread from yonks back. Anyway, my file didn't contain your previous German so there are still plenty out there
