Fattyowls Posted 16 January , 2015 Share Posted 16 January , 2015 David, would your two be one man? And would that one man be the great Richard Tawney? Seems appropriate that I should get it if correct of course. Oeuf en visage otherwise I fear..... Pete.
neverforget Posted 16 January , 2015 Share Posted 16 January , 2015 My only other contribution at the moment is an Australian avian homophone VC particularly popular in West Bromwich: dri 279.jpg David Got there in the end via the Baggies. Good one David. Hugo Throssell, V.C. As for your other pair, and U.G`s classy bird....All have me stumped for the moment. My unidentified bird also has an unfortunate distinction. Fattyowls Posted 16 January , 2015 Share Posted 16 January , 2015 I'm not confident about my last wild guess all of a sudden but the Australian VC who is pronounced the same way as the bird on the Baggies crest is Hugo Throssell. Pete. Edit: Beaten to the punch by NF; that'll learn me not to read the full biog before posting. Cue Muttley like muttering at Owls Acres. Uncle George Posted 16 January , 2015 Share Posted 16 January , 2015 This bird theme has life in it yet. Who is this ? ? ? (Getting a bit desperate now, I'll give you that...) EDIT - sorry NF we posted at the same time... I think it unlikely that this will be solved (post 1518). He is Marcus Segal. (Segal - see what I did there?) Another very interesting tale: https://sarahfairhurstjmm.wordpress.com/2013/08/05/marcus-segal-letters-from-the-trenches/

Coincidentally I was watching the Somme docu drama that features him today with Year 9. David Ridgus Posted 16 January , 2015 Share Posted 16 January , 2015 Coo - the bird theme certainly had wings! Well done all. Here's another one, same theme. Might be an easy one. A native American Caryl? David

CarylW Posted 16 January , 2015 Share Posted 16 January , 2015 A native American Caryl? David Not strictly speaking David. I thought that someone had identified him a few posts back, but it was just one of those odd avian coincidences. Pete has a connection with this man, another coincidence! David Ridgus Posted 17 January , 2015 Share Posted 17 January , 2015 Inmates and Witters Blimey we really are back in the old routine. Stats for yesterday were 59 posts and 16 WITs. Vintage 'Who is this?' courtesy of Caryl's imagination taking flight. Oh go on then, just one more: Who is this antipodean VC David
neverforget Posted 17 January , 2015 Share Posted 17 January , 2015 Not much evidence of any activity from the night-owls. We know we`re getting close to exhausting a theme when someone posts one of the three that you had waiting in the wings...(groan.) Your antipodean VC is Storkey, David, but your Royal Berks man I haven`t managed to tag as yet. Of my two remaining candidates; one is dead easy, and the other is a little more obscure. Easy one first:
