He wasn't a multiple MOH winner, though he was a multiple winner of purple hearts and the DSM. His awards in total both military and civilian mount to at least 30. During the interwar years he was a vigorous crimefighter and enforcer of the law. He is known as the "Founding Father" of an American institution.
