With regard to his medals he has a unique distinction.

Before I retire for the night is he one of the multiple Medal of Honor winners, if so was he the one recommended for a possible third.

He wasn't a multiple MOH winner, though he was a multiple winner of purple hearts and the DSM. His awards in total both military and civilian mount to at least 30.

During the interwar years he was a vigorous crimefighter and enforcer of the law.

He is known as the "Founding Father" of an American institution.

The film I mentioned earlier was based around a particular WW1 battle, his participation in which was rewarded with a DSC.

Has he been awarded one of these?

Knight Grand Cross (First Class) of The Most Exalted Order of the White Elephant (Thailand) & known as Wild Bill from his place of birth?

Yes, his wiki page makes a most interesting read. An exceptional character, and led such a full life. I think the cigar goes to friend Knotty, who was the first past the post. Well done chaps.

To quote from a previous…..”He had an exceptional career both in and out of the military”😁, also a Founder member of a group.

He was gassed in WW1, and returned to the USA early 1919 as a Colonel, a full 6 ranks higher than his 1917 West Point graduation and appointment as 2nd Lieutenant.

Police or lawyer perhaps?

I see that in the military police a provost marshal was a colonel until 1915, and a brigadier-general thenceforward. Does this mean he was invalided out in 1915 perhaps?

Close Steve, he graduated and was commissioned  in 1917 as a 2nd Lt and by promotion a Colonel by 1919, yes he was a provost marshal [Don't forget not British, the wiki reference]
