Hi

Would be grateful for information re this guy. What is that on te right of his chest?

Hello Robbie,

The item on his chest appears to be a bunch of flowers, quite common to see on such photos. The one on the card is an Ausmärsche photo, one taken when the soldier was about to leave for the front and given to friends and family.

The scan is not clear on my computer but I can make out that Georg was a soldier in the 9th Coy, 26th Bavarian I.R. On 1 January 1917 at the age of 34 he died a heroe’s death for the Fatherland as a result of being shot in the head. I cannot make out the occupation or town. Hope this helps.
