John_Hartley Posted 29 July , 2014 Share Posted 29 July , 2014 Pat was known to us on the GWF under his user name of leanes-trench. He died in 2012 and his book, subtitled "Battles of the Gallipoli Campaign", has recently become available in the UK. It's a book I believe written for a more general market than for the "war anorak" and, in that, it tells the story of the campaign well. Pat draws on the vast collection of documents he held about the campaign and, in the modern style of such books, there is "proper history" interspersed with personal accounts, taken from letters and diaries. I presume there must have been editing, perhaps after Pat's death, which has resulted in some events getting short shrift - Third Krithia, for instance, is dealt with quite briefly. In truth, knowing the level of detail which Pat held, I hoped for it to be more for the "war anorak" - the bibliography runs to 44 pages, including 350 mainly British newspapers - but it's a good enough read as it is.
