Guest smitz99 Posted 23 October , 2004 Share Posted 23 October , 2004 HI FOLKS I HAVE BEEN TRYING TO FIND MY MOTHERS FATHERS ARMY RECORD, HE WAS GASSED IN WW1 AND GOT A PENSION TILL HIS DEATH IN OCT/1945. AFTER MANY HOURS ON THE COMPUTER, LETTERS AND A VISIT TO KEW, NO LUCK, RECORDS MUST EXIST JUST PAY HIS PENSION, I HAVE WRITTEN TO THE " WAR PENSIONS AGENCY" BUT NO ANSWER YET. I KNOW MY MOTHER LOOKS FORWARD TO MY LETTERS LISTING MY PROGRESS OR LACK OF IT. IF I CAN FIND HIS RECORD AND THE MEDALS HE IS ENTITLED TO, I INTEND TO GET MINIATURES MOUNTED AND GIVE THEM TO HER FOR CHRISTMAS, IT WILL MAKE HER DAY. NOTES:NAME: HENRY ARMSTRONG D.O.B. 5/3/1876 SEAHAM HARBOUR, DURHAM D.O.D. 13/10/1945 6A MELFORD RD, ILFORD. PENSION: POST OFFICE , CLEMENTS RD, ILFORD QUESTIONS: 1. IF A SOLDIER WAS GASSED, DID HE GET THE "SILVER WAR BADGE" (SWB) 2. IS THERE A LIST OF ALL SOLDIERS THAT GOT THE SWB, AVAILBLE ON THE INTERNET. ANY HELP WOULD BE MUCH APPRECIATED. steve chilton Posted 23 October , 2004 Share Posted 23 October , 2004 Hi Mick, Do you know what regiment he was in? If so it will help looking up his MIC online. That will give you a start. It could well be that his records were destroyed in WW2 but his MIC will still survive and I think I am right in saying that there is a good chance his pension records may as well. Guest smitz99 Posted 24 October , 2004 Share Posted 24 October , 2004 HI FOLKS THANKS FOR YOUR INTEREST,I DO NOT KNOW HIS REGIMENT OR NUMBER, ALL I KNOW IS THAT HE WAS IN WW1 ,NO PHOTO, WAS GASSED AND DREW HIS PENSION TILL HIS DEATH ON 13/10/1945 1. I HAVE SPENT FOUR HOURS AT KEW LOOKING FOR HENRY ARMSTRONG( NO MIDDLE NAME ON HIS BIRTH CERT) AT MICROFILM AND THE MIC BUT UNTIL I CONFIRM HIS REGIMENT/NUMBER IT IS PURE GUESS WORK. 2. THE ONLY WAY TO BE SURE IS TO TRACK BACK FROM HIS PENSION, ONCE WE HAVE FOUND HIS REGIMENT/NUMBER EVERY THING FLOWS FROM THAT. 3. 1891 CENSUS LIVING AT 10 LEY ST, ILFORD. 4. 1901 CENSUS NO RECORD, THE STORY IS HE JOINED THE ARMY IN 1891, SO COULD BE IN BOER WAR? 5. I THINK THAT IF THE SWB WAS ISSUED TO HENRY THAT MIGHT THE WAY TO GO. CHEERS MICK
