The 12th (County of London) Battalion, The London Regiment (The Rangers) were originally part of the Middlesex Rifle Volunteer Corps, for a brief period in the 1880s were a Volunteer Battalion of the KRRC. In 1916, the Rangers were 'transferred to the Corps of the KRRC'. In WW2, it constituted the 9th Battalion, KRRC. So there is no real disconnect; it could just be slack annotation.
