Guest robin miller Posted 27 October , 2004 Share Posted 27 October , 2004 Can anybody tell me why some soldiers have different Army Number's for example Royal Sussex Reg Pte 201508 Royal Sussex Reg Pte L/12452 Is the reason that there were casualties in battles and had to re-enlisted upon there recovery. or that there were transfered within the battalion when needed because shortage of man power. or is there a more simple answer???? HarryBettsMCDCM Posted 27 October , 2004 Share Posted 27 October , 2004 The first number {6 Figure} is a TF [1916] Number which replaced an earlier 3 or 4 Figure Number, the L/***** Number is a Service Battalion 1914 Enlistment Number, suggesting he moved to a Territorial Battalion from a Service Bn.though if staying in the same Regiment it is unusual for the Number to Change{apart from the TF Changes of 1916}unless as you say he may have been discharged & re Enlisted?
