Guest Veronica Posted 31 October , 2004 Share Posted 31 October , 2004 hello, I realise this is a bit of a long shot but my Great uncle, Percy Millard was killed during WW1. I have found some details on the commwealth war graves commision website as seen below. Name: MILLARD, PERCY Initials: P Nationality: United Kingdom Rank: Private Regiment: Suffolk Regiment Unit Text: 11th Bn. Age: 20 Date of Death: 11/07/1916 Service No: 15211 Casualty Type: Commonwealth War Dead Grave/Memorial Reference: V. E. 12. Cemetery: ABBEVILLE COMMUNAL CEMETERY He came from a small village called Reach in Cambridgeshire. His brother Charles ( my late grandfather) also fought in WW1 but thankfully he made it home. What I would really love to find is some more information about Percy, or if anyone here had a relative who knew him or Charles. Most grateful of any information anyone may have. Thanks. GrandsonMichael Posted 31 October , 2004 Share Posted 31 October , 2004 Hi Veronica, Just had a look at the National Archives where the Medal Index Cards can be searched. Millards - Suffolk Regiment: 7. Millard, Percy, private, 15211, Suffolk Regiment: 1. Which means if you fork out £ 3.50 you can download his M.I.C., could give you a little info. You can find him here: http://www.documentsonline.nationalarchive...1&resultcount=1 Hope this helps your research. Cheers, Michael
cliff brown Posted 1 November , 2004 Share Posted 1 November , 2004 The Cambridge newspapers of the 1914-18 period have plenty of information on those serving. I would guess his death was covered. The Cambridge Chronicle, Cambridge Independent Press and Cambridge Daily News are all available on microfilm at the Central Library, in Red Lion Yard, Cambridge. I would also point you towards Phil Curme's 11th Suffolk website for plenty of background info.. http://www.curme.co.uk/

Stephen Nulty Posted 1 November , 2004 Share Posted 1 November , 2004 Veronica Here's Percy in the 1901 census, living with his grandparents. No sign of your grandad, though. SN
