At the time of the 1901 census, Ernest, then aged 9, lived at Horse Road, Hilperton, Wiltshire, with his father George, mother Alice, brother Charles (16) and sister Alice (12).

The Long, Long Trail

The 10th (Service) Battalion, Lancashire Fusiliers, was formed at Bury in September 1914 as part of K2. Attached to 52nd Brigade, 17th (Northern) Division, the Battalion landed in France in July 1915.
