THE BUFFS

SOMMESOLDIER

Recommended Posts

Hi There,

Could anyone please help with any information about Pte V G Le Feaver G/9134

8th Battalion 'The Buffs'. I know that he died 29-6-16 aged 22 is buried in Berks Cemetery Extention and he was the son of John and Ellen. Also I believe his brother Charles died 22-5 17. I have the 1901 census for his family but he is not there and as far as I can see the are only two Le Feaver families in the country at the time, any ideas ? Also what does the V G stand for and anything else about him or the 8th Buffs would be very much appreciated.

Cheers

Tim. :)

Cheers,

I'm so taken aback by the rapid response from Enoch and Steve. Thanks so much.

Thanks Steve for that image of the census. What I did I just put in the name Le Feaver and got all his family but not him for some reason so I didn't purchase the image. A lesson learned. Thanks again.

Searching on the surname "Le Feaver" returns 11 matches. 1-10 are on the first page, and our man Victor is all alone on the second page, which may be why you missed him.

His number looks just a little high for him to be getting a 1914/15 star so he probably went overseas in early 1916. A check of his MIC will tell you if he got the star.

I'll post further when I get a chance to look at the 8th Bn diary

OK here we go.

On the night of 28/29 June the Bn carried out a raid near Ploegsteert as part of the rehearsals for the Somme offensive. They moved out at 23:31 under a creeping barrage. The surprise failed and the party withdrew after an exchange of hand grenades. 3 officers and 100 men went on the raid. 4 men and were killed and 20 wounded.
