Guest Pete Wood Posted 2 November , 2004 Share Posted 2 November , 2004 On 25th August 1916, Pte Dauncy (sic) and 23 other soldiers (including 14 Privates) of No 2 HT Depot Army Serice Corps, Blackheath, were injured in a Zeppelin raid on London. Pte Dauncy (sic) was the eldest son of Mrs Dauncy, of 71 Roan St, Greenwich. Personal account of air raid. In SDGW I find that T2/015894 Pte Frederick Dauncey died of wounds in France & Flanders on 25.6.16. According to SDGW, Dauncey was born and lived in Greenwich (which fits the above account). Also, on the 1901 census, Frederick was the oldest child (he was 19 in 1901). Is Dauncy and Dauncey a mix-up....?? Or were they two different people..?? If there was also a Frederick Dauncey, who died of wounds in France, I can't find him on the CWGC register. So did he die....?? Or have I missed him, because his name has another spelling...?? If anyone knows of the other 23 men injured at Blackheath, by the Zeppelin on the 25th August 1916, please let me know.

Terry Denham Posted 2 November , 2004 Share Posted 2 November , 2004 RT DAUNCEY is the correct name. CWGC have corrected the entry. His 'Y' fell off.
