paul3747 Posted 3 November , 2004 Share Posted 3 November , 2004 Hello! I am trying to find some information about my great grandfather, Edgar William Ashby of the Royal Field Artillery but I am a bit unsure how to find things and where to look. I know that he was "mentioned in despatches" by Haig on April 9th 1917. Is there anyway of finding out what he did that was worth mentioning? Are Haigs despatches anywhere online? I have discovered that I can purchase a medal card as well. Is this something worth getting? Would it have many details? I have many relatives who fought in Australian Army in WW1 and finding very detailed records of what they did is very easy to find online. EW Ashby is the one and only ancestor of mine who was in British Army so would be great to get a bit of a picture of who he was and what he did. As I said, he was in the Royal Field Artillery but this is a bit vague. Is there any way of finding what unit he was in? Anyway, hope someone can help!
