ianw Posted 23 December , 2014 Share Posted 23 December , 2014 I was pleased to pick up a copy of this locally . It is based on a Great War oral history project undertaken by Dr Alf Peacock in York in the 1980's. He interviewed 200 old soldiers and recorded them on reel to reel tape. The book includes a CD of excerpts from the interviews. Of course all the normal caveats about the frailty to human memory , Walts etc apply but I look forward to reading it and listening to the now departed voices. Still available new at the moment. Pompey Posted 23 December , 2014 Share Posted 23 December , 2014 Ian, Please let us know if it is worth getting and if it just old soldiers from around the York area or does it cover many different units? Regards Pompey
ianw Posted 23 December , 2014 Author Share Posted 23 December , 2014 Having a leaf through and it is of course Yorkshire oriented but with a wide range of units represented inc the Waggoners Reserve. A nice selection of pictures. The entries range from the mundane to very interesting as you might expect. I paid a couple of quid for my copy but even new with the CD it only costs £10. Pretty uncommon presentation with the CD containing excerpts from the interviews.
