Hi to everybody

I am at the moment doing a research about British , Australian, Canadian explorers who died during the Great War. Some members of this forum have maybe some names and informations for helping me to compile a list.

One I have already found was Captain Leslie Russell Balke antartic explorer & geologist a memeber of the Australasian antartic expedition 1911 - 1914 with Douglas Mawson.

Thanks

Cheers

Yves

Are you only interested in explorers who died?

I ask because plenty more survived, including Frank Debenham of the 7th Oxfordshire & Buckinghamshire Light Infantry.

Hi Yves,

What about Brig. General Cecil Rawling.Commanding 62 Inf Bde. Died at Hooge(Ypres) on 28/1017 and is buried in THE HUTS Cem at Ieper.

According to " These for Remembrance" book by John Buchan, he was in the Tibetan Expedition in 1904. He also led an expedition in Southen Tibet, which determined for the firts time the sources of the Bramaputra. Also an exp. into Dutch New Guinea 1909-11, where his party discovered a new pigmy race.

Cheers

Koyli.
