Robert Paton Gregg

Hi there,

I am looking for some opinions as to what this ribbon could be on this soldiers chest. The family knows little about his movements as they do not know the battalion. Is it a gallantry award? If so does anyone have the ability to trace it.

Here is the photo anyway.

Many thanks in advance for your help.

My best regards,

Tim

It looks like it may have a rosette also. I may be the Military Medal but is very unclear. You can search for him here. I could not find him but there are 167 entries for Gregg which you may wish to troll through.

And if you do not have it you can download his Medal Index Card here which may give you some clues. The card will at least have numbers for the Medal Rolls which may give an indiciation as to his battalion.

Hi Tim,

Thanks for the reply.

No luck in the 167 in the LG. I'll try the MIC.

Thanks for your help.

Not that it is anything to go by but Royal Scots with 5series numbers on my local Memorial appear to be 11th or 12th Battalion Royal Scots.

Hi Malcolm,

Thanks for the reply.

Funnily enough that was the two battalions I was roughly guessing he was in from the little info that I have. Like you the number series got me thinking along the same lines. However, if it is a gallantry award, I should be able to trace it, and then hopefully identify the battalion.

Thanks for your help.

All the best,

Tim

Sorry Tim,

Fingers in action before brain again. I didn't see that you had his number. This is obviously him?
