7th Border Regiment

9th Black Watch

Hi,

Could anyone familiar with the above unit possibly tell me what happened on the 3 July 1916.

SDGW indicates that they lost 22 men killed in action.

All the best,

Derek

There is a book published, which your library might be able to find for you, called 'Fallen on the Somme' which is the published diary of 2nd Lt H H Linzell who was killed on this day. Also, if you type 2nd Lt Crompton into the forum search, you should get a picture of his medals.

Thanks for the information Jon. I notice there are a few copies on Abebooks at the moment.

Best wishes,

Derek

9th Black Watch,

Don't know if you got a copy of Fallen on the Somme, but I saw one yesterday, signed by the author in a local secondhand book. I recalled seeing Linzell's name in a post, have you got a copy or wouyld you like me to get it for you. If I recall it was the princely sum of £ 6.00 and was in good condition.

Let me know if you have it and if you wish me to see if this one is still available.
