Guest Pete Wood Posted 7 November , 2004 Share Posted 7 November , 2004 I have found a reference to the 1932 conference of the British Legion, where the case of this soldier was "raised once again." Pte JT Hollindrake was found to be missing after an air raid in Durham in 1916. He was still, in 1932, classed as being absent from his regiment. The war office claimed he had deserted. This meant that, legally, his wife was unable to be classed as a wife or a widow. The British Legion had, apparently, been working on the case for two years to have his death legally presumed. Does anyone know more about this man, and his 'death'...? Was he an air raid victim, and therefore deserves to be on the CWGC register, or did he go 'missing' after the air raid.....?
