T8HANTS Posted 8 November , 2004 Share Posted 8 November , 2004 C.S.M. Frank Simmmmonds DCM and Bar, Royal Engineers. Hi all Back in the mid sixties I bought a photograph album in a junk shop for 1/6d ex the above hero. apart from some fantastic pre war pictures in South Africa, there was the illuminated Army Orders and certificate for the award of his second DCM. All issued by Rawlinson of Fourth Army. What little research I have done tells me he was with 23rd Field Company and was awarded it for Conspicuous Gallentry during the crossing of the Sambre canal, about the same time Major George Findley won his V.C. (The Sapper V.C's). The first was won sometime in 1917 when he was A/CSM, but for what I don't know. Is there any knowledgeable pal out there who can shine more light on my hero, and does any really clever chap know where the medals are.........Gareth
