Sapper Will Posted 9 November , 2004 Share Posted 9 November , 2004 I am researching a K1 man who originally served in the 8th Royal Fusiliers. That battalion was disbanded on 6 Feb. 1918, and he was transferred to the 2nd RF and killed in action. I would like to find out why the 8th was disbanded. Heavy casualties perhaps? bmac Posted 9 November , 2004 Share Posted 9 November , 2004 A large number of battalions were wound up at this time and their men redistributed to other battalions when brigades were reduced from 4 to 3 battalions. The Royal Fusiliers were reduced to 15 battalions (excluding the London Regiment). Amongst other RF battalions to disappear were the 32nd, 12th, 20th and 22nd.
