manxman Posted 10 November , 2004 Share Posted 10 November , 2004 Pte 36918 Thomas Arthur Hinds, King's Liverpool Regiment This is the grandfather of a colleague of mine. We are trying to find out about his war service. All we know at present is that he was captured "on the Somme". He was a resident of Douglas, Isle of Man. Can anyone who is knowledgible on things KLR tell me whether his battalion or date of joining up can be either established or guestimated from his service number. Many thanks
Promenade Posted 10 November , 2004 Share Posted 10 November , 2004 Manxman, Pte Hands originally served with 20 KLR and then transferred to 18 KLR. He enlisted in the early months of 1916. He almost certainly enlisted in Douglas into the KLR with his probable friend Joseph Cannell (no 36916 - the previous number but one to Hands). Cannell was subsequently transferred to, and killed with, the Loyal North Lancs Regt. Soldiers Died states the he was born in Peel and enlisted Douglas. Joseph Ambrose Cannell, Private, 26946, 1st Bn. The Loyal North Lancashire Regiment, 25 November 1916. Thiepval Memorial Promenade
