Guest GHT Posted 11 November , 2004 Share Posted 11 November , 2004 My grandfather served in the Canadian armed forces during the First World War. He signed up in Winnipeg Manitoba. My father remembers stories about my grandfather being in an entertainment group. It may have been called the Dumb Belles but I'm not sure. I would appreciate any information. My grandfather was Harry Bishop Taylor. During the war he was gassed and he suffered from shell shock in the later 20's and early 30's. He was one of the first people that was given electric shock treatments.
Kate Wills Posted 11 November , 2004 Share Posted 11 November , 2004 Hello and welcome to the Forum. The Dumbells (though the troops may have referred to them as Dumb Belles!) have appeared several times in previous threads. Fellow member N.S.Regt contribited a stunning thread a while back, which I'm sure you will enjoy Ross Hamilton and The Dumbells
jhill Posted 11 November , 2004 Share Posted 11 November , 2004 There is a good short article on the history of the Dumbells at the National Archives here: http://www.collectionscanada.ca/gramophone/m2-1007.1-e.html There are also references to other resources, including recordings.
