graves registration units

Does anyone know of any private memoirs published by members of the graves registration units? In 1986 while visiting Cheltenham I got to know an old lady whose husband was a disabled officer in charge of a GRU ((he died 1949) I was lucky enough to read his private papers which I suspect he was trying to turn into a book. (It would never have been allowed). The revalations on how things were done as opposed the official line were quite revealing. It seems rum and black humour played a big part.

Rex,

I'm afraid I don't know of any such work. I'd be very interested if you ever found one; the truth behind the orderly rows of headstones must be rather less organised. They had a really difficult job, and I'd like to understand how they went about it.

Good luck!
