peter-t Posted 12 November , 2004 Share Posted 12 November , 2004 On a recent visit to Delville Wood Memorial & Museum I made a list of the recipients of the 7 Victoria Crosses on display. Among these was one awarded to W.H.Hewitt, 2nd South African Light Infantry. I read upon my return that Framlingham School had presented 3 VC's won by former pupils to the Imperial War Museum, including the one to W.H.Hewitt. I have now visited the IWM and seen the Hewitt VC in its display. Has this medal switched museums in the month between my sightings, or are there two medals in existance? Terry Denham Posted 12 November , 2004 Share Posted 12 November , 2004 Many (if not most) VCs on display are replicas for safety/insurance reasons. I think that you will find that those at Delville Wood are replica medals.
