Guest Posted 13 November , 2004 Share Posted 13 November , 2004 I believe my Grandfather Richard Skidmore fought with a Lancashire Regiment (It may have been the Lancashire Fusliers)during the Great War, even though he was born and lived all of his life in South Staffordshire. I remember seeing photographs of a regiment marching down the East Lancs Road (I think). How can I find out, if at all possible, which regiment my Grandfather was with. Bit like looking for the proverbial needle in the haystack.
Ken Lees Posted 13 November , 2004 Share Posted 13 November , 2004 Have a look here: <http://www.documentsonline.nationalarchives.gov.uk/browse-refine.asp?CatID=10&searchType=browserefine&pagenumber=1&query=*&queryType=1> There are three Richard Skidmores listed, but none with a Lancashire Regt. Bear in mind though, that if he had a middle name, the search I did will have missed him. Regards, Ken

Guest Posted 18 November , 2004 Share Posted 18 November , 2004 Found a Richard Skidmore attached to the Loyal Lancashire Regiment, but it doesn't ring any bells. Do now that he was on the Rhine at Cologne in 1919, had a Kidney operation, done by a German Doctor. He was born in 1895 so I guess he could have been in the war from the beginning he had two Brothers one David, the eldest fought with the South Staffs and John W who I am not sure. He was the Youngest of the Brothers born in 1897.
