JEG Posted 14 November , 2004 Share Posted 14 November , 2004 I wonder if anybody could please help. At the moment I am researching Lady Violet Cecil whose only son, George, died at Villers Cotterets 1st September 1914. From my researches, I understood that George was educated at Winchester. Therefore, I was surprised to read on a website that he was educated at Eton College and is named on Eton’s Roll of Honour. I suppose it is possible that he attended both schools, but somehow this seems unlikely. I would therefore be very grateful if anyone could possibly confirm that George E. Cecil did actually attend Eton. Many thanks, Janet
Stuart Brown Posted 14 November , 2004 Share Posted 14 November , 2004 Janet, The book The O.T.C. and The Great War has the following entry (nothing further). Cecil G.E. Winchester G.Gds
Guest Pete Wood Posted 14 November , 2004 Share Posted 14 November , 2004 Don't think he did attend Eton. Look at http://www.westernfront.co.uk/thegreatwar/...als/cecilge.htm However his father, Lord Edward Cecil, was educated at Eton. Dick Flory will know..... JEG Posted 14 November , 2004 Author Share Posted 14 November , 2004 Thanks for that. George Cecil's obituary in The Times does not mention Eton, only Winchester. Regards Janet
