doogal Posted 15 November , 2004 Share Posted 15 November , 2004 Hi, Lt H Brown was an officer in the 5th Duke of Wellington's (West Riding) Regiment; the war diary confirms this, and a letter from him to the NOK of one of his platoon states this much. He was transferred to the 2/4th Hampshires in 1918. However, whilst reading the records for a different Lt Brown, correspondence included mentions Lt Brown from the West Riding Regiment, as part of clearing up a mistaken identity. In this correspondence, it clearly states that "my" Lt H Brown was: Lt H Brown (Labour Corps) 5th West Riding Regiment, and that the 2/4th Hampshires had confirmed this. Can anyone explain how the "(Labour Corps)" might fit with his service. I don't really understand how this might have worked, as I have never seen him described as such. with thanks doogal
