Stephen Barker Posted 16 November , 2004 Share Posted 16 November , 2004 Indeed remembering all those who fell during the Redan Ridge battles. Most of those killed actually fell on the 15th. I believe Duckworth was one of these. My great uncle was in the action. 10 officers were killed in the 8th East Lancs. Gough wrote a report about the attack, such was the mess. One of the most isolated and beautiful parts of the Somme fields. Stephen
wellsms Posted 16 November , 2004 Author Share Posted 16 November , 2004 Stephen, My interpretation of the writeup was that it was most likely to be the 15th, as is yours. The 16th is the 'official' date listed on the CWGC website and was the one used by the family on a small memorial silk that I have. We will be visiting the Somme for the first time in April, this will be one of the areas that will get particularly close attention. I must admit that whilst I'm very excited about going, I am also very nervous. I have no idea how I'm going to react to the enormity of it all. cheers Mike
