paul3747 Posted 19 November , 2004 Share Posted 19 November , 2004 Trying to find anything possible about my great grandfather, Edgar William Ashby. He was in army from 1893 untill 1922 in the Royal Artillery and was mentioned in despatches on April 9th 1917. Is there any way of narrowing down what unit he was in? If he fought in the Boer War? Basically anything that could be found out about him would be greatly appreciated. Here are some photos (not great quality) but maybe someone can tell something from the uniform or medals of his uniform. I really hope someone can help, would be great to know a little bit more about who he is. Some photos here Thanks! Paul
charlesmessenger Posted 19 November , 2004 Share Posted 19 November , 2004 The medal he is wearing pre-1914 is the Indian Medal with the Tirah 1897-98 clasp, which means that he served during this NW Frontier campaign. He did not serve in the Boer War and was a Lt in 1919. He was not entitled to the 1914 Star and so was not in France & Flanders before 23 Nov 14.
