Old Tom Posted 12 January , 2016 Share Posted 12 January , 2016 As the sub-title indicates this work of history only deals briefly with the Great War, but, I believe, is well worth drawing to members attention. The links between the two world wars are well described together with fascinating insights in to many aspects of life over the period. Its 500 odd pages are well supported by an extensive bibliography. It is, in effect volume one of a two part series by the same author. Both are parts of the Penguin History of Europe. Dreamplanter Posted 12 January , 2016 Share Posted 12 January , 2016 Tom, I just started it in a few days and think it is an excellent book. One really does need to know what are the situations that let it to the brink and beyond even although nobody seemed to actually want a war. I guess nobody could have foreseen what a horror it turned out.
