Dragon Posted 19 June , 2016 Share Posted 19 June , 2016 I want to send my 11 year old nephew a book about the Somme, because someone said it's coming up to the Centenary. News to me. Anyway... I don't want to overwhelm him, just to send something suitable for his age group, something he might enjoy and actually read. Any suggestions, please? Thank you! MikeyH Posted 19 June , 2016 Share Posted 19 June , 2016 Gwyn, The Somme by Sarah Ridley is aimed at readers 11 and up. But at only 48 pages might be a little 'light'. You can find more info on Amazon Books. Mike.
barrieduncan Posted 19 June , 2016 Share Posted 19 June , 2016 When I first started reading about the War (probably around 15 years old) I found Lyn Macdonald's book very interesting. I liked the personal experience aspect of her books. There is a volume covering the Somme. This might be a good introduction as it's not too 'heavy' with politics and strategy etc. Barrie
