Manchester University Press books 50% summer sale

If you buy direct from the Press website and insert Summer16 in the Promotional Code box, there's a 50% discount on prices. As some of the academic hardbacks are £80 it may bring some things down to a price where you'd consider buying them - but at £7 or £8 the paperbacks are a snip.

I've run a search on Great War in their titles: http://www.manchesteruniversitypress.co.uk/search-results/?keyword=great+war; the titles disperse after page 2 to those that have either Great or War in the title but not both as a phrase - I tried searching as a phrase but their system does not recognise it.

First World War brings up a larger set: http://www.manchesteruniversitypress.co.uk/search-results/?keyword=First+world+War

Interesting titles: John Galsworthy and disabled soldiers of the Great War; Nurse writers of the Great War; The secret battle, emotional survival in the Great War; Jamaican volunteers in the First World War.

Thanks, seaJane. Some interesting books there. The discount has allowed me to order one of the more expensive ones on publishing during the war.

Bargains!

A book I had been interested in a year back had only be available in hardback at silly money. Spotted it was now available in paperback and a snip at nine quid with the discount..

Still far too many a bloody silly academic prices - the fact that were so many of which I had never heard shows just what a bubble academic publishers and marketeers live in. The crusade continues!!

Thank you for flagging this up. I read a library copy of Bowman's book about morale to help my daughter with her dissertation but I'll now purchase a copy for myself at this price.

You do fall to wondering though who on earth would pay £75 for a book about the Cypriot Mule Corps

So few people/libraries that they have to price it high to get any sort of return... ?

It's a mystery to me.

I think that Helion are doing great work here - some very specialised WW1 books, beautifully produced, and priced at the £25 mark even for hardbacks, not the £75 (and sometimes this sort of price for a paperback) that we see from some of the University Presses for this kind of book..

My parcel of books has arrived, less than 24 hours after I placed the order. Very pleased with the savings and the service.
