Hi tankengine888,

Thanks for getting interested in this smiling tiger forum.

The first bayonet has been around for some time, we have not listed it because we think it looks more like a fake.

The second is #1980 and has already been listed but must of missed being updated on last list..

Cheers,

TR

Ah, I see. Thank you for pointing it out. I'll have to double check next time around! I was referencing the last list posted

Just going through my guns and doing dog tags for the gun and another for the bag the bolt lives in. I hope to do tags for the bayonets when I’m finished with these . I’ll get the weights when I do the tags

Phil,

Your smiling tiger tag looks good. (Better than that fake one above). With the bayonet weights, I would just write down the bayonet numbers and write the weights beside each number, would save duplicating photos that we already have.

I do not believe any of your bayonet numbers are in the list I just added, some are new numbers and a few are from earlier posts that strayed from the last list, #1980 was another one of them. I am sure JMB will sort them out when he has a look.

Cheers,

TR

JMB,

Not sure how to tell you this but a couple of those last cat numbers escaped your new list. #1980 and #9372.   Also 2x #8262s.

That old saying "you can't herd cats," sure stands true.!!!!!.

Cheers,

TR

JMB,

You cant do that; there is still a way to go yet. We are closing in on the 250 mark and gathering a few new lookers along the way.

I just realised that #5168 from last week also eluded capture on to the new list, so with those 3 numbers to add, things are looking pretty good.

Cheers,

TR,

Having done a lot of work in Thailand I would not put it past them to make a mistake and for two bayonets to have the same number.

Lovely people, but don't expect everything to work.

I think in this case, a gremlin got into the first few numbers of the 8000 list and mixed them up a bit. It is a number I do not have a photo of.

This thread is certainly interesting, though I doubt I'll find a 'new' smiling tiger bayonet.

Questions on my end must be asked though.
Do the bayonets number above 10000? It's certainly surprising to see that 1 and 10000 have survived!

Zidane.

tankengine888,

If you go back to page 1 of this post started by JMB, and start there you will find why the post was started.

On page 10, Phil B has a video on the history of the Smiling Tiger's, it is worth looking at also.

Mr TR,

Couldn't find a sword to fall on, so tried several of my sword-bayonets.

However, none could pierce the full suit of jousting armour that I was wearing over a coat of chain-mail.....Ned Kelly would have been proud!

Anyway, back to the listing and a re-corrected table is given below.  Regards, JMB

PS. #8262 appeared on GWF on 12-4-22; p. 14; posted by Phil B with a photo of his Tiger banner.

EDIT: NO, that was #8363; have deleted #8262 from this table, because it has never been recorded.

Looks like you put that sword through the gremlins on your newest list, it looks a good one.

I am thinking you may have miss read the bayonet number on photo posted by Phil B on page 14 above tiger banner, it is #9363 not #9262.

At the moment I have photo's of 190 of the 222 full readable numbers on the list and a couple of part numbers.

Cheers,

TR

Mr TR,

Looking at that bayonet again, and comparing it to other 9000 serials, I think that the number is actually 8363 (which is already in the Table).

What are your thoughts?

Regards,

JMB

EDIT: Just went back to p. 14 and see that you also read it then as 8363.

#8363 appeared on your list which was updated Dec. 2022 the day after Phil posted the photo of it. The following list Feb. 2023 #8363 was gone and never showed again, that is why I reposted the photo of #8363 on Monday and it is now back on the latest list.

#8262 x 2, first showed up on the updated list in Feb. 2023 when #8363 was left off: I have not found where anyone bought #8262 to this post, so I am thinking we do not have any record of it at this time and is so far a non starter.

Cheers,

TR.

Mr. Ryan,

You are on the money here!

When #8363 was first posted by Phil B, I erroneously entered it as #8262 on my master list.

Checking the master list starting in 2016 to today, I find that there is no #8262 correctly listed.

Will delete #8262 from next iteration of the Table.

Thanks again for the effort that you are putting into this project.

JMB

JMB,

Just when I thought that we had found all those stray smiling tigers, another few have come to light. #1829, 2936 & 9589, they are all new to the list.

I can't say the same for the RAF marked bayonets, I continue searching but have had no recent luck in finding a new one. The search will continue tho.

Cheers,

TR

Not sure why photo's have dropped down the page, uploaded same as usual.

Mr. Ryan,

Do you have a shed at the bottom of the garden, with Santa’s elves knocking these out on demand?

All duly recorded, so thanks for these three.

You are right about the RAF Bayonets, they seem to have dried up; obviously a second shed is needed……..
