Numbers of British P.1907 bayonets surviving

Thanks for the updated list, so much easier to follow now.

I did have a photo of #4803 from the UK website.

We also have a very clear photo of both #9903 and #9908.

There are at least 3 chromed ones to date, #s 3070, 4570 & 7214. Phil is probably out feeding all those smiling tiger cats in his personal cat collection !!!.

From the photos that are available, I note that there are a scattered bunch in the 3000s that show signs of original stampings still showing under the Siamese #s, same in the 6000 series. These two series account for most of the over stamped numbers.

Cheers,

TR

TR,

Thank you for checking the photos; so, no pattern of numbers with the chromed examples.

I'll add #9903 right now, so as to start the 4th quarter right.

Up-up-dated register here.

Regards,

JMB

It would be interesting to know how this disposal business worked. I can see how a metal company might buy old bayonets for recycling, but many of these ones 'escaped' to the second-hand market fortunately for us collectors. I know that some USA companies bought up 'redundant military stuff for onward sale,  but I would not have thought that bayonets were an exactly sellable commodity except to collectors.

It is good to see a new number, I do not remember seeing it before so thanks for adding.

JMB, I just checked the list for this new one and I noticed that there are several of the later 9000 numbers missing off the latest list #s 9737, 9792, 9851, 9931, and 9957. That darn gremlin has been at it again !!!.

Cheers,

TR.

Scott, thanks for the new serial, much appreciated!

Mr Ryan, thanks for doing the follow-up and spotting those serials that I seem to lose very readily!

I like to blame it on the cut ‘n’ paste that I use to add new serials, but at the end of the day it is operator error.

I have always been a fan of the Roman Empire, so where is that sword-bayonet for me to fall on?

I will update the register this weekend.

Regards,

JMB

One just popped up on a site I regularly monitor, apologies if it’s already been reported,

Hello Dave,

Yes, keeping eyes on the usual suspects will often pay off!

I read this serial as 134 (8?), a little murky with that grease on the ricasso; what do you think?

Certainly a new serial for the list.

Excellent, can’t help with the numbering I’m afraid but happy to report any I see.

Best wishes all,

JMB, Dave66,

Smiling tiger # 1348 looks correct to me. That is a good site which has produced a few numbers for the list already.

I saw him last Sunday as he was stalling out at the fair…..very nice varied Stock but I could in all honesty spend a small fortune with him.

Thanks for confirming number,

A much needed wet day today so doing a bit more detective work.

Back on the 1/8/23, page 23, Matthewsq supplied a photo of a smiling tiger which was not to clear, he mentioned he would update a better photo later.

I noticed that he has not been back in touch, so I checked out his original photo.

The photo needed to be flipped first, I cannot make out the first number but believe that the other numbers are X694 or x684.

One for the unfinish list at the moment, we may see a better photo later. I think it may be 3 tho,

Cheers,

TR

A P1907 Smiling Tiger is up for auction in the U.K. in a timed sale. Only one overall photo included in the description.  The auction blurb, says it is numbered 2642 in Thai numerals.  This is the one I previously posted about on the 27th April.  It then had a conflict in the serial number either 2462/2642  Was sold for £60, now estimated at £150 to £200.

Mike.

JMB, don't think we can rely on this as new entry to the listing.

Mike,

You are right about this being a bit iffy…….but at least, with 60 then / 150 now, inflation is real!

Gooday Phil,

Did you score the all metal scabbard on eBay the other day.

We already have that last one listed; # 8714, I rotated photo it for easier reading and describing numbers on these to bayonets.

The one in question is what I am thinking is # 7694, but a few ??s there. This is the clearest photo I have been able to make of it so far by changing a few shades of colour.

Looking at these 2 photo's, the top one of which is very clear # 8714.

The first # on the bottom photo appears to have the same shape as the 7 on the top photo.

The second # on bottom photo is a clear enough # 6.

The third # on the bottom photo appears to be # 9, which is an extension of the # 8 on the photo above.

The fourth # on the bottom photo is a clear enough # 4.

#7694

Any other detectives out there with their thoughts.

Cheers,

TR

The eBay scabbard went for a king Rama ransom so I let it go . Hope a new litter of kittens comes up soon as I need 2 more to round up to 20 . I’m afraid I may be in part responsible for the price increases from the interest generated by the YouTube videos and posts on Facebook.

but the hunt must go on,

cheers Phil

Mr TR,

I like your method of comparison to get at the unknown serial!

However, although 694 is clear enough, for me the first numeral is not.

At this point it would best be entered as x694.

Andrew,

I already highlighted this one, a week or so ago.  But was unable to do the link.  When previously auctioned a few months ago, there was a identity doubt over the number either 2462 or 2642, needs a close up to verify.

This turned up on one of my Facebook feeds 260euros if anyone wants it. The scabbard isn’t correct and the bayonet is in let us just say , less than pristine. Hope some more turn up soon. Looking forward to cracking 300 and onwards

cheers from the colonies

Hello Phil,

Thanks for this one——3349.

Glad to see that you wild colonial boys still have your eyes open!!!

My feeling now is that getting to 300 is not going to be easy.
