t.ryan Posted 2 January Share Posted 2 January That is # 8737, JMB already has it listed. I found it much easier to print out a copy of JMBs list of numbers already found and a copy of the Siamese numerals and have them handy when searching for new smiling tigers bayonet's. Saves a lot of doubling up of photos and gets much easier as you get to know those Siamese numerals especially the 4/5 and 8/9 numerals. But as you can see, the Siamese numeral chart numbers are slightly different to those stamped on the bayonets. Have fun!!!. Cheers, TR

JMB1943 Posted 2 January Author Share Posted 2 January Mr TR, Thank goodness you are keeping me honest, and not the first time either! I really must pay more attention……will update the corrected Table soon, after I have looked at Navydoc’s latest offerings and you have had the time to review my numbers. Phil B Posted 2 January Share Posted 2 January JMB out of interest, is there a record or approximate number of how many found from a hemisphere or country? cheers Phil
JMB1943 Posted 2 January Author Share Posted 2 January Phil, Clearly the vast majority have been sourced in Oz, but I don’t have any counts. Regards, JMB
t.ryan Posted 2 January Share Posted 2 January Phil, JMB, When I first started searching, the majority I found come from either the US or British dealers and most of them had already been sold but had not been removed from their sites, lucky for us. I think we may have just about exhausted those by now. The more recent ones found are those that are showing up in current auctions, gun shows, facebook sites etc and the odd new member or smiling tiger post follower coming forward with a new number. These later ones showing up are from all over the place but quiet a few have shown there smiling faces here lately. Keep looking Phil. Cheers, TR. t.ryan Posted 5 January Share Posted 5 January (edited) Good to be home again, happy new year to all. There still seems to be a fair bit of confusion with some of the Siamese ??? numerals stamped on the smiling tiger bayonets for the 1920 Contract, some of which differ from those shown on the charts we have been working off. The numerals on the short Siamese bayonets are different again so not much help there. I have put together a small chart as best I could from the numerals actually stamped on the 1920 contract bayonets, in order 0 to 9 so that for the first time we can see the differences side by side, especially the 4/5 and the 8/9. A fiddle and not pretty; but at the moment the best we have, so I hope it will help with some of the confusion in the future. Sometimes you may see a numeral that is rotated a little to the majority. t.ryan Posted 11 January Share Posted 11 January (edited) JMB Looks like we have the first new number for the year, tiger # 5601 just showed its smiling face, so I thought I would snap a photo for the records. Nice clear easy to read numbers to boot, but not so much the smile on the tiger. On page 27, 3rd down of the 12 photo's, you have listed as #6356: I believe it is #6346. t.ryan Posted 12 January Share Posted 12 January JMB Thanks for the updated list, makes things much easier. I done a cross check with your list and my photo list where I found I had not up loaded a couple of the later photo's to my photo list; so fixed them up. I did find smiling tiger # 6274 was still missing from your list. It is one of Phil's, with photo on the bottom of page 22. That cat has escaped a couple of times and needs penning. JMB1943 Posted 12 January Author Share Posted 12 January Mr. TR, Let's make up a story about Thomas a Becket (Archbishop of Canterbury) played by you and Henry II, King of England, played by me. ME: "Will nobody rid me of this meddlesome priest?" YOU: "Who, me?" Five or six armed knights arrive at Canterbury Cathedral, and within 2 minutes, the deed is done. Some say that your ghost wanders the crypt, looking for VERY, VERY large striped cats......and still you annoy the King, by pointing out his errors...... Regards, JMB Thanks again for keeping the records straight!!!!! 1 1013 2011 3008 4060 5021 6013 7056 8089 9047 32xx 6 1021 2078 3022 4070 5027 6014 7094 8104 9070 5x46 35 1046 2106 3070 4078 5044 6107 7128 8181 9088 608x 67 1048 2133 3090 4087 5066 6137 7143 8262 9091 808x 96 1099 2177 3155 4116 5154 6212 7187 8349 9130 x2x2 107 1115 2247 3202 4127 5168 6249 7214 8363 9185 xx1 130 1118 2278 3260 4150 5171 6274 7441 8388 9229 x070 145 1166 2280 3279 4236 5221 6285 7538 8415 9233 104x 320 1202 2339 3290 4335 5225 6339 7594 8496 9264 x33x 326 1241 2390 3349 4378 5278 6346 7600 8594 9288 x95 330 1306 2399 3372 4403 5351 6368 7611 8625 9296 71x 341 1326 2411 3395 4406 5391 6384 7626 8651 9306 16xx 392 1348 2418 3400 4409 5405 6430 7745 8712 9337 X97 404 1367 2529 3449 4451 5411 6476 7778 8714 9338 437x 427 1431 2590 3454 4454 5502 6485 7860 8726 9356 X400 456 1482 2622 3496 4496 5531 6527 7923 8732 9372 298x 505 1485 2675 3572 4537 5601 6557 7948 8737 9383 X694 516 1527 2702 3673 4570 5603 6581 7973 8751 9385 541 1584 2715 3682 4629 5960 6630 7999 8783 9412 544 1635 2784 3689 4632 6732 8793 9413 577 1658 2815 3797 4650 6737 8832 9458 590 1757 2833 3810 4651 6750 8833 9459 625 1758 2849 3815 4654 6801 8964 9499 644 1761 2851 3816 4724 6819 9502 649 1829 2925 3893 4770 6831 9559 711 1831 2936 3958 4779 6847 9589 714 1860 3992 4803 9737 732 1889 4983 9792 788 1926 9851 827 1980 9903 836 9908 847 9931 866 9957 941 9968 979 9973 997 9993 10,000 36 30 26 27 28 19 26 19 23 37 17 =

t.ryan Posted 13 January Share Posted 13 January JMB We have really let the cats out of the bag today!!!. but you are not getting away that easy just yet. 2 lists up, #6479 ( a stray for sure) was added instead of the #6279. #6479 needs to be removed from the last list, the tally should be 289 I believe. There is no wonder I hate stray cats!!!!. they are starting to make me go cross eyed. Cheers, TR
JMB1943 Posted 13 January Author Share Posted 13 January (edited) Mr TR, This is beginning to feel like death by a thousand cuts cats, but only myself to blame!!! t.ryan Posted 15 January Share Posted 15 January Another smiling tiger found on the prowl, #3078 has been caged and makes it just one more closer to that magical 300 number. Cheers, TR

t.ryan Posted 16 January Share Posted 16 January Phil, tankengine888 Gooday Phil, not sure how you miss read that!!!!; it is smiling tiger #8688 and a new one for the list.. tankengine888, you are correct, yours is #3038 and another new number, looks very similar to #3078 which I added yesterday. That is 4 new smiling tiger numbers already rounded up so far this year, so good start and should make the boss (JMB) happy. The tally of 300 is closing in fast. Looking at #s 3070, 3038, and 3078 the smiling tiger face is slightly off centre to usual, maybe there was a different worker stamping that batch of bayonets?.
