Hi guys,

My name is Ronan McGreevy. I am the author of the recently published Wherever the Firing Line Extends: Ireland and the Western Front which is published by The History Press (Ireland).

This is what my book is about.

I have received two very favourable reviews in Ireland, in The Irish Times (where I work but John Horne is a heavyweight commentator) and The Irish Independent.

and http://www.independent.ie/entertainment/books/book-reviews/shedding-light-on-overlooked-legacy-of-wwi-34977462.html

I am keen to spread the word about this book in Britain as I think there would be an audience for it. What specialist magazines should I approach? Who do you think might review it?

Does anybody have any other suggestions as how to maximise exposure for it?

Thanks in advance,

Ronan

Lead in time might be lengthy but try 'Stand To', the magazine of the Western Front Association for starters. Chris Baker's 'Long, Long Trail...' website is another as Chris reviews lots of books.

Magazines of the ilk of 'Britain at War' might be worth a try though, again, lead in times might be slow.

If you feature Irish lads who were living in England, Wales or Scotland an approach to the newspaper that covers the town they were living in might help.

Twitter, Facebook both lend themselves to pages featuring your book - create a page/feed yourself and post content with a suitable number if # tags.

Send review copies to the British press - the Times, Daily Mail etc though I don't know how effective that would be.

Would I be right in assuming that the History Press which published the book is a sister company of the same name company in the UK? If so, do they not have a marketing/PR department which issues review copies and does other placement stuff?

Hi Ronan

Have had much the same experience with an Irish publisher who does not seem to push his publications in the UK although my book has been reasonably well received in Ireland. I've found that I've had to take the initiative myself contacting magazines such as Stand To and even some of the larger book chains..

For those interested my book is Neither Unionist nor Nationalists - The 10th (Irish) Division in the Great War 1914-1918

Best wishes with the book

Yes, David. Chris Baker often places his reviews on Amazon as well as his website.

Another (cheap) option is to try and identify Irish organisations in the big cities and email them particulars for popping on a newsletter, noticeboard etc.

Reviews editor of Stand Too is Bob Wyatt.

Does anybody have an email address for Bob Wyatt?
