stevesaints Posted 6 December , 2016 Share Posted 6 December , 2016 Can anyone tell me which regiment men from Hammersmith would have been most likely to join at the start of the war.
squirrel Posted 6 December , 2016 Share Posted 6 December , 2016 FWIW that may also have depended on where they worked and if there were any family regimental connections. Regular Regiment's local recruiting area for Hammersmith was the Middlesex Regiment but also any of the regiments that traditionally recruited in the London area, Lifeguards, Royal Horse Guards, Grenadier Guards, King's Royal Rifle Corps... These TF Drill Halls may also have a bearing: Fulham High Street SW6, Fulham House 25th Battalion (Cyclist), London Regiment 7 London Brigade Royal Field Artillery (18 and 20 County of London Batteries and Ammunition Column) 190-2 Hammersmith Road W6 13th Battalion, Middlesex Regiment Iverna Gardens (far end of Adam & Eve Mews) W6, 13th Battalion (Kensington), London Regiment Bulwer Street W12 Royal Field Artillery - London Howitzer Brigade HQ
