Will O'Brien Posted 13 December , 2004 Author Share Posted 13 December , 2004 Can't find any MIC index entry for Edgar Jarvis..............Given his UK burial & the unit he was serving with, my guess is he never saw active service.....
jim_davies Posted 14 December , 2004 Share Posted 14 December , 2004 Soldiers Died shows: Spr Edgar James Sparrow, 266277, RE (12th LT. RLY. OP. DIV. RE) Died of Wounds, 13/12/1917 Born-Bosworth, Leics Enlisted-Coalville, Leics Residence-Ashby-de-la-Zouche, Leics Not sure whether the died of wounds means he was involved in an accident given his lack of MIC. Jim Jim is this the same man?.................You've got his surname as being Sparrow..................Checked online PRO for an MIC in this name & couldn't find anything either...........................Died of Wounds would suggest overseas service unless I guess he was caught up in a Zep bombing or something similar..............If SDGW is right (assuming Edgar Sparrow & Edgar Jarvis are the same chap) it is possible his MIC is missing................I don't know how likely this is...........perhaps someone familiar with MIC research can guestimate how probable the missing MIC theory is
jim_davies Posted 15 December , 2004 Share Posted 15 December , 2004 Will, Me being very dumb. I'd been looking at a "Sparrow" on SD before posting this and managed to mispost. The above should read Edgar James Jarvis. The rest is correct... To somewhat redeem myself following men appear on SD- A/2/Cpl Herbert Armstrong, 267247-KIA, F & F, 19/10/17 A/2/Cpl Arthur Donegan, 269926-DoW, F & F, 17/10/17 Spr Joseph Richardson Hall, 183847, KIA, 6/10/17 Spr Frederick William Lettham, 265730, KIA, 21/10/17 Spr John William Lewis, 269356, DoW, 22/07/17 As being with the "12th LT RLY OP COY RE" whereas Jarvis is "12th LT RLY OP DIV RE". Wonder if there's any difference? Jim
jim_davies Posted 15 December , 2004 Share Posted 15 December , 2004 Just as an add on Edgar's brother Wilfred Arthur Jarvis, aged 19 also died during the war. Killed in action on 3/8/18 with the 7th Leics aged 19. Jim

Wonder if there's any difference? Jim Never mind Jim......................Given the Died of Wounds I'm firmly in favour of the missing MIC...........................with regards to the 12th Light Railway Operating Company& 12th Light Railway Operating Division issue.........I don't know what the answer is............my first thought is it's a transcribing error from when that particular SDGW volume was formulated (lets be honest SDGW is full of them). I had a quick scan at the Light Railway Section on the Long Long Trail mother site......12th Light Railway Operating Company is clearly listed...........no 12th Light Railway Operating Division. jim_davies Posted 16 December , 2004 Share Posted 16 December , 2004 I think I'll try to follow up on this one. I agree the DoW would suggest overseas service. Jim
