Steven Broomfield Posted 19 February , 2017 Share Posted 19 February , 2017 I'm off to Arras in a few weeks' time and intend to visit the sites of the 8th Cavalry Brigade's actions at Monchy le Preux: question - is the Battlefield Guide on Monchy a useful guide/ I notice it is a 2000 production but I've never looked at it. Just under a tenner on Amazon - worth the money?
Gareth Davies Posted 19 February , 2017 Share Posted 19 February , 2017 The chapters are: 1. Monchy and the Battle of Arras 1917. 2. Who captured Monchy? 3. The men who saved Monchy. 4. Making progress: 23 Apr 17. 5. A melancholy episode: 3 May 17. 6. Infantry Hill captured? 7. Monchy lost: 23 March 1918. 8. Monchy recaptured: 26 Aug 18. 9. Post war reconstruction. 10. The battlefield today.

J Banning Posted 19 February , 2017 Share Posted 19 February , 2017 The book is a good guide, certainly one of the better ones. Colin Fox was a real Monchy aficionado. Whilst not covering the Cavalry action in any detail, it is still well worth getting IMHO. JB
